This recording captures Charlemagne Palestine’s live carillon concert on the bells of St. Rumbold’s Cathedral in Mechelen, Belgium, performed in October 2017 as part of the Dodonaeus Festival. Known for his strumming technique, Palestine applied this approach to the cathedral’s carillon, creating a meditative and acoustically rich sonic environment.
The piece unfolds through slowly shifting patterns, layered resonances, and ringing overtones that fill not only the tower, but carry out across the entire city centre of Mechelen. This recording offers a rare opportunity to hear Palestine’s unique take on carillon music.
