Koen Caerels: "The Grid Generator XY"

25 february 2021 -> 14 march 2021
thursday -> sunday, 16:00 -> 22:00

Video installation.

With this video installation Koen Caerels shows his visual work for the first time. Inspired by the work of Agnes Martin, Koen programmed a continuous analog video signal (black and white) that draws grids. Each output is a random grid (90x90) of min. 1 and max. 20 subdivisions vertically and horizontally. The line width varies between 1 or 2. The composition can be open or closed.

“Art work that is completely abstract — free from any expression of the environment is like music and can be responded to in the same way.
Our response to line and tone and color is the same as our response to sounds.
And like music abstract art is thematic. It holds meaning for us that is beyond expression in words.”
— Agnes Martin
